Yes. Many varieties of bamboo are sold commercially (e.g., http://www.bambooworld.com/). However, you should purchase a clumping variety, because bamboo can be very invasive. There are no bamboo police who will come along and tell you to rip up your garden. You can own geraniums, too.

Of course, as long as it is your own private garden - no planting in a neighbour's garden allowed. Just be sure that you have a fence and a sturdy gate to keep your bamboo safe from roving herds of pandas.
