If they are linked to a website, it means the path to the picture is broken. they might have been moved, deleted or the name of the file changed.

when you have that red X in the corner it means that the image link is broken... The website is looking for the image in a certain location and it isn't where it is pointed to. Relevant example... you are looking for a certain store in the mall. you check the map and it says that the store is in hall way D store 4... you go there and it isn't there... now you are lost... you are IE... the store is the image... the website is the map.

Probibly you loaded a program that will handle all pics of any file and will display a different logo.Like Nero or a photo shop programs.
