It's odd isn't it. But considering what other "sports" and "games" Japan pushes out these days, Sumo seems to be relatively normal.

It's actually surprisingly athletic. It's not fat guys hugging each other, it's fat (and really muscular) guys pushing each other off of a 10 foot high platform.

What's with americas obsession with football? It's just a bunch of jocks slapping each others butts. We have football, they have sumo.

Sumo's a wonderful sport, to those who understand it.

Not diapers by the way. It is called a "mawashi", a length of cloth folded and wrapped around the body. It is an essential part of the sport as wrestlers grab onto it and try to leverage out their opponent. Sumo also has a lot to do with techniques and there are many different throws and maneuvers used to defeat opponents.
