  • Birth control provides a constant level of progesterone. Since a drop in progesterone is what triggers your cycle to start, keeping levels high keeps your ovaries from preparing an egg for fertilization. Pregnancy tests pick up levels of hCG, which is produced by a fertilized egg, so being on birth control pills will not give you a positive pregnancy test.
