Can birds fly when it rains?

    Yes! Though it depends, some birds get waterlogged and cannot fly well, but others are pretty waterproof and can fly when wet. Usually birds just stay put during a rainstorm and keep warm and dry, but if they have to they can fly away.

    I seen bluejays get splashed with water but fly. There features lets water roll off. But most birds get wet fast in rain and flight gets very labored or not at all.

    Yes, they can, if the rain is not so heavy that it knocks them from the air. But they don't like to,..for the same reason most people don't like standing out in a rainstorm with no raincoat. Birds do have protective oils in their feathers. This is why they can splash in a birdbath and still take off. But you will notice that they shake the water off as well after a cool "dip".
