  • James Madison is known as the "Father of the U.S. Constitution". As a delegate to the Constitutional Convention, he took leadership of the process. The Federalist Papers, written earlier by Madison, John Jay and Alexander Hamilton, were the basis for many constitutional clauses. Madison never claimed to be the "father of the Consitution", insisting it was the product of many minds.
