I could only find one reference for a strep throat home remedy. Strep throat does not respond readily to home remedies, and left untreated can have serious consequences such as rhuematic fever, rheumatic heart disease, and what has commonly been called scarlet fever, as happened to me. Afterward for some years I seemed susceptible to strep throats. Lacking medical insurance, my home remedy was to procure veterinary ampicillan and take that. WARNING: Ampicillan can produce dangerous allergic reactions even in people who have taken it safely in the past. While I use a number of home remedies and don't like going to the doctor, there are some things that really shouldn't be treated at home. Broken bones is one. Strep throat, in my opinion, is another.
However, if you wish to try a home remedy, the only reference I could find suggests these steps: A cool mist humidifier to put more moisture in the air, making sticky, dry, irritated throats feel better (dry and irritated throats and sinuses are also more susceptible to secondary infection); warm soaks to reduce inflammation to the glands; sage or arnica flower, taken in pill or tincture form, to reduce inflammation in the throat and ear areas; and garlic to counteract the actual infection. Either you can gargle warm water with salt for 5-10 min. Maybe drink garlic and carrot juice- 2 cloves garlic juice in a 8 oz. glass of fresh carrot juice 3 times daily. And maybe grapefruit seed extract- 1 drop in 3-5 oz. glass warm water as a gargle only!!!!PEOPLE WHO READ THIS PLEASE GET BETTER BCUZ THIS HURTS REALLY BAD AND IT TAKES UR VOICE AWAY, I MEAN I COULDNT TALK 4 ABOUT 3 DAYS AND RITE NOW I STILL HAV IT!!!
I beg to differ, strep throat can and has been cured at home without traditional antibiotics. However if symptoms become worse, I would suggest a visit to the doctor. Do a little research on the following for strep throat.
oregon grape root tincture 20 drops in 1/4 cup water 3 times daily. This tincture keeps the bacteria from lining the throat and boasts the immune system.
garlic and carrot juice - 2 cloves garlic juice in a 8 oz glass of fresh carrot juice 3 times daily
grapefruit seed extract - 1 drop in 3-5 oz glass warm water as a gargle only.
hydrotherapy - warm bath for about 20 min. to induce a low fever if you havent got one already.
There are many things you can do at home that will help you get over strep.
Nutriteam Grapefruit Seed Extract. Gargle 2-3 drops in 5 ounces of water 2x's per day. Okay to swallow.
You can't cure strep throat at home. You will need to see your doctor for antibiotics, since untreated strep can occasionally lead to rheumatic fever.
Home care for strep (AFTER you see the doctor!):
Drink warm liquids. Honey or lemon tea is a time-tested remedy.
Gargle several times a day with warm salt water. (1/2 tsp of salt in 1 cup water.)
Cold liquids or popsicles help some sore throats.
Sucking on hard candies or throat lozenges can be very soothing, because it increases saliva production. This is often as effective as more expensive remedies, but should not be used in young children because of the choking risk.
Use a cool-mist vaporizer or humidifier to moisten and sooth a dry and painful throat.
Try over-the-counter pain medications, such as acetaminophen. DO NOT give aspirin to children.
I'm at home and I can't get anywhere, what are some home remedies to help my coughing? It's a dry cough that hurts my throat.
