I don't know about intellectually, but I think from a PR standpoint it was Ali, hands down, no contest!..of course Howard Kosell helped that along! :)

Sugar Ray Leonard. His second bout with Duran more than proved the point!

There was never a more saavy fighter in the ring than Ali. However the best technician would be Sugar Ray Leonard. IMO.

Mike Tyson......J/K, not the smartest, but he's definetely given our comedians something to joke about.....Kind of like Bush. =P

I would have to go with either Ali, or Sugar Ray Leonard. I saw documentaries on both of them and they were both pretty much, genius.

Lennox Lewis seems to be doing an OK job on Celebrity Aprentice. Better than that Pierce guy, at least.

Rocky Marciano because he was smart enough to retire undefeated (49-0) and never made a "comeback". He's the only heavyweight champion in history to retire undefeated.

Thats a tough one. When you say smartest boxer, Im assuming you mean someone who is able to figure out their opponent while fighting them and then capitalize on their weaknesses. Ray Leonard was great at that. Bernard hopkins in his prime. Alexis Argüello is another that comes to mind. I guess the best at figuring out an opponents weakness and having "ring smarts" would be Muhammad Ali.
