the hurricane.
I don't know about intellectually, but I think from a PR standpoint it was Ali, hands down, no contest!..of course Howard Kosell helped that along! :)
My grandad, he had one pro fight got a bloody nose and said 'this is stupid I'm not going to do this anymore'.
George Forman gets my vote..He is a smart business man.
Don't know who the smartest is but I think this guy must be the DUMBEST!
Watch right at the end too! This guy is a complete Yogurt.
Sugar Ray Leonard. His second bout with Duran more than proved the point!
The one who never started.
Boxing is a sure fire way to get brain damaged.

The man Ali and Sugar baby Ray.
There was never a more saavy fighter in the ring than Ali. However the best technician would be Sugar Ray Leonard. IMO.
Mike Tyson......J/K, not the smartest, but he's definetely given our comedians something to joke about.....Kind of like Bush. =P
I would have to go with either Ali, or Sugar Ray Leonard. I saw documentaries on both of them and they were both pretty much, genius.
Ali was definitely the smartest in terms of strategy.
Lennox Lewis seems to be doing an OK job on Celebrity Aprentice. Better than that Pierce guy, at least.
Benny Leonard. He was brilliant.
Tommy Loughran is right up there as well.
Ali would find your weakness and expose it.
Lennox Lewis was an avid chess player
Rocky Marciano because he was smart enough to retire undefeated (49-0) and never made a "comeback". He's the only heavyweight champion in history to retire undefeated.
Thats a tough one. When you say smartest boxer, Im assuming you mean someone who is able to figure out their opponent while fighting them and then capitalize on their weaknesses. Ray Leonard was great at that. Bernard hopkins in his prime. Alexis Argüello is another that comes to mind. I guess the best at figuring out an opponents weakness and having "ring smarts" would be Muhammad Ali.
