Why do some people enjoy anal sex? Most things have an advantage to the species.

    As already said, anal sex may give a man more pleasure because of the tighter orifice. But it may also cause pleasure to a male recipient because it puts pressure on the prostate gland from behind, and I am told of similar effects in the female.

    If the sole reason for sex were reproduction, humans would be like dogs, with the males only interested in the females when they gave out clear signals of being fertile, and females only interest at all in sex at these times. Instead, the female human body does the opposite to dogs: it goes to considerable lengthts to conceal from the woman as well as the man that it is fertile (until the opportunity has passed).

    It is therefore almost certain that sex for humans is a multi-function activity. It certainly serves the function of reproduction - but a woman would need to have sex only once every year or so to do all the reproducing of which she is physically capable. But it seems likely that it also serves the function of strengthening the pair bond, so that a couple are more likely to stick together when times are hard - and hence more likely to succeed in bringing up children.

    If this is true, any interaction that increases sexual pleasure, and hence the pair-bonding, is likely to be selected for. Evolution will pick on any available effect, and if anal penetration unexpectedly delivers pleasure, that is all to the good.

    Which I see as good news. Evolutionarily speaking, if you are in a steady relationship, there is not such thing as the wrong sort of sex as long as both partners enjoy it. If it turns you both on, do it - with Darwin's blessing. (He was a lot more broad minded than his crusty image).

    If done properly, it is actually very pleasurable for a female as well. It cannot be approached the same as vaginal intercourse or else it will be painfull for her and she probably will not try it again. There are women who can orgasm this way without the assistance of clitoral stimulation. Trust me. As for the male, it probably feels tighter to him than a vagina.

    I believe this is because the anus is a tighter orifice than the vagina. For a man with a smaller erect penis to fully enjoy sex he may need to penetrate the nether regions.

    That makes absolutely no sense at all. Why should it have an advantage. It's not about "advantage", it's about "pleasure". Here, let me use that in a sentence: "People enjoy anal sex because it gives them pleasure". The ass is tighter and is; therefore, more fun to pound.
