  • Most fragrances are oil soluble, so it may take a solution of mineral oil or vegetable oil with a few days of soaking time to remove any scent. But considering the cost of the oil, the fact that chemicals were soaked in the jars, it's be safer and more cost effective to toss them then buy new sealed glass jars aka Kilner Jars.
  • It's possible that the jars aren't even food-grade material. It's admirable that you want to recycle them, but I'd suggest finding another use. What I would try is to put some crumpled newspaper in the jar, and stuff some up into that plastic lining in the lid. Close the lid, and let it set for a few days. The newspaper should absorb the smell.
