It is very possible that people who make fun of others want to feel better about themselves by putting other people down.

I think that people make fun of each other, to make the person that is being 'made fun of' feel 'inferior' to them. I think it also gives the person 'making fun of' other people, the feeling that *they* are superior to the person being 'made fun of.' It's not necessary, imo, so I don't think there is a 'point' to it, really.

I don"t know. I wish I did because people make fun of me all the time and it"s very painful and hurts my feelings to the point where I don"t want to leave my house anymore. People have been laughing at me and insulting me ever since I was a child. I am now 43 and it"s still going on. I tried every tactic under the sun to stop and prevent from happening but nothing works.It really stinks because I thought when you become an adult, this problem would eventually come to pass. But at age 43, it is very disheartening to find out that no matter what age, there will always be "bullies on the playground".

Anyone who put others down are doing so just to make themselves feel better. I guess it also makes them look like a big person when to me they actually appear to be a very very small person.

I think the real reason that people make fun of other people is to make themselves feel better. I think that some people are insecure in themselves and it makes them feel better to make someone else feel bad, it makes them feel empowered-gives them a sense of control. Don't give these people your power. There will always be someone some where with a negative comment or attitude, just know that you are better than any of the mean or hurtful things someone may tell you. No matter how mean or hateful someone may be, you have to have the self-confidence to keep your head held high, believe in yourself and not let those things get to you.
