well ive lost 20 lbs on a 9 day water fast and im on a 23 day one now at day 11 and ive lost 22 lbs. that 20 lbs on the 9 day, i gained my 5 lbs in water weight back but NONE of the rest. the problem with asking most people about it is they dont know anything about it. most will say your starving yourself. starving only occurs after youve gone through and flushed out all of your excess fat. stay strong and dont let anyone deter you from your goals. good luck to you.

It doesn't matter because you'll be dead, if you mean you're not going to drink any fluids for 30 days.

Normally, a human adult can only last three days without water.

That's not healthy! I dont even know but you'd probably go right to the hospital and be forced to gain it all back again!

If you are drinking only water and not eating, you will loose about 10 pounds the first week, and between 3 and 5 pounds the next two weeks. It is not recommended to go beyond this.

You must not begin a diet this severe without your doctor's permission!

You will have lost about maybe 10 kg at the end of the 30 days.

However, when you start again to eat, you could regain those 10 kg quite quickly, if you are not cautious. You could even weight more than at the beginning:
"Yo-yo dieting, also known as weight cycling, is a repeated loss and gain of body weight due to excessive dieting. The term "yo-yo dieting" was coined by Kelly D. Brownell, Ph.D., at Yale University, in reference to the cyclical up-down motion of a yo-yo. In this process, the dieter is initially successful in the pursuit of weight loss but is unsuccessful in maintaining the loss long-term and begins to gain the weight back. The dieter then seeks to lose the regained weight, and the cycle begins again.

The reasons for yo-yo dieting are varied but often include embarking upon a diet that was initially too extreme. At first the dieter may experience elation at the thought of loss and pride of their rejection of food. Over time, however, the limits imposed by such extreme diets cause effects such as depression or fatigue that make the diet impossible to sustain. The dieter reverts to their old eating habits, and with the added emotional effects begins to rapidly regain weight.

This kind of diet is associated with extreme food deprivation as a substitute for good diet and exercise techniques. As a result, the dieter may experience loss of both muscle and body fat during the initial weight-loss phase (weight-bearing exercise is required to maintain muscle). After completing the diet, the dieter is likely to experience the body's famine response, leading to rapid weight gain of only fat. This is a dangerous fat-cycle that changes the body's fat to muscle ratio, one of the more important factors in health."

    Little, if any.

You will send your body into "survival mode" - during which it will burn as few calories as possible, and store every bit of food you DO consume (because... you'll probably cave at some point) as fat, in preparation for the long wait for the next meal.

Also, you're likely to retain water, as this is also a side effect of survival mode.

And, when you do begin eating again, it will take some time before your body adjusts, and you will put on MORE weight.

Whatever your current weight is. If you only consume water for 30 days, you are likely to die. Therefore you will lose all of your weight and be nothing but a corpse.

Regarding people's comments on gaining all the weight back (plus more) in the period immediately following the fast:

Your metabolism will take time to pick up again, back to an (average) of say 2000 calories/day BMR.

Initially the metabolism will be quite low, and so any calories you eat are likely to be stored as fat.

However, if you exercise enough, say to burn 1000 calories a day on a treadmill or through cycling, then you will be safe to eat upto 1000 calories/day without gaining weight. In the meantime, your metabolism will be accelerated, due to the physical exercise and food entering your digestive system. So you will not gain any weight back from the fast.

Eventually, exercise will not be necessary, and your metabolism will be running at full speed, using all the calories one consumes in an average (three meal) diet.

Fasting is a fantastic lifestyle manoeuvre. You will lose lots of fat, feel stronger, look better, gain more confidence...etc etc. Do it.

namkcam is correct, people are assuming it is not healthy, people are made to believe this by rediculous people who want you to buy their diet pills and their nasty ass weight loss food that does nothing for you, your doctors are also in on that, they would try to shove a pill down your throat to make a shit load of money off of you before they actually told you the truth about doing it naturally, fasting(and this is a proven fact)is probley the best thing anyone could do for themselves, you cleanse your body of all the toxins while loseing alot of weight in the process, youll gain clarity, youll be more spiritually in tune and you will feel amazeing afterwards, gaining confidence, happiness and great health. And for those saying youll gain it right back, the only way you are going to do that is by going back to your old habbits and ways of eating, once your fast is over your craving for fast food, sugar and all that bad stuff is gone, because you cleared your body of the toxins and bad fats you where carrying around all those years, youll in fact crave healthy natural foods and if you do try to eat fast food it will make you sick. And its not like when you fast you do it on a whim, you first prepare your body for a week by eating nothing but fruits and veggies and of course a vitamin for protein and drink nothing but water or all natural juices, you also prepare mentally,by doing these things and prepareing your body and mind, going into the fast is easier and you wont struggel as much with trying to stick to it,by prepareing yourself you may not struggel with it at all.And remember prayer is a very helpful important thing to do while prepareing yourself and while you are fasting.

You will lose a lot. But as soon as you start eating again, you'll put it ll back on. Just cut down to One solid meal or 2 small meals. It seems to be working for me. Dont try these fad diets- this one is exactly the same as starving yourself, which has greater consequences than benefits.

i read up on fasting because i was thinkin about trying this diet (or so called cleansing method)and most facts i have read say you will loose an enormous amount of weight.Shortly after the fasting you will gain the weight back rapidly if you dont take it slow and eat only small things, maybe juice fast a few days after to avoid rapid weight gain.

To all you nay-sayers, Namkcam is right. Unless you're as skinny as a rail (then you have no business fasting for weight-loss), the body won't enter "starvation mode" until it has exhausted all of the dead-tissues and stored-fat. The only time healthy-muscle can be attacked is in "starvation mode". Ever hear the saying, "Use it or lose it"? Well....., if you're so worried about losing muscle and won't listen to me, then partake in some light exercise. Take a 30-minute walk everyday, do some stretches, yoga even. On a fast, you don't need to overexert yourself to keep your muscles intact. Actually, you shouldn't be doing heavy workouts anyway. Your body is in the "healing-stage" and if overworked, will give out on you and make you rather ill.

Don't take my word for it, though. Ask your doctor. Do some research. Try it for even 3 days and see for yourself. Don't listen to the nay-sayers unless you can prove them right.

In my opinion if you drink 80 to 90 ounces of water a Day and you eat a Low Carb High Protein Diet consisting of Less than 60 carbs a Day, Drink Whey Protein and Blended Fruits and Veggies, Hard Boiled Eggs,Yogurt Low Fat with Less than 12gms of sugar,Low Sodium Cheese not too Much and Maybe for the sweet tooth Sugar Free popcycles but everything low in Sugar and Carbs and stay away from Sugar over 12 grams and "NO MEAT" and Chicken Breast 2wice a Month with Exercise 5 days a week for 20 minutes a day of vigorous cardio, jumping jacks, situps, speed walking and DRINK,DRINK, ALL 80 OUNCES OF WATER and eat Less than 900 calories a day you will see a difference in your weight, you need Food for Fuel plus TONS OF WATER WILL MAKE YOU SHED AND MAKES YOU VERY FULL,ALSO READ LABELS AND TRY TO STAY AWAY FROM TO MUCH SODIUM YOU ONLY NEED BETWEEN 500-900 grams of sodium a day if your trying to lose, cuz sodium makes the body retain water but if your Drinking lots of water it should FLUSH AND TRY NOT EAT AFTER 6pm but if that's too hard then only have Light food like apples and carrots for snacks

You lose about 15 the first week and after that maybe like 1 pound a day or half a pound. Depends really.
Doing this has other benefits too though. Clears your body of toxins, helps you let go of desires, your mind seems clearer. After first 3 days of just water it gets easier.
You will prob put the weight back on though if you don't maintain exercise and good diet. :-)

If you mean, by drinking only water for thirty days, you will lose about a pound a day. If this is your first time fasting, I do not recommend you go that long. Usually we start off with two day fast and work our way up. Also, you need to get ready to begin a fast, by eating fruits for a couple of days. It is not as easy as you think it will be.When you end you also need to ease your way back into eating solid food. No meat at first, just fruit.

It can be as little as 20 lbs or as much as 60 lbs. It highly depends on how overweight you are, because the more you weigh, the more you'll lose.

This is not advisable. After 30 days (if you make it without food that long), switching to solid food again will make you sick.

I have tried this...it is scientific fact that up to 117 days a person can go without food only if you take a multivitamin and drink at least 64oz of water daily. it does bring off weight..up to 2-7 lbs. every 3 days. It doesnt make you feel that well because you feel tired, off balance and sick feeling. Lost of energy is a big problem. i am 36 and am on this diet right now. I have to lose weight fast and in 2 days i have lost 5 lbs.

    It depends on the individual.
Water fasting for detox, religious beliefs, etc., are more common than many people realize.
It should be done with the guidance and supervision of someone who has done it before, as well as a medical or natural health professional.
Anyway, most people lose quite a bit of weight during the fast, but gain much, if not all of it back shortly after reintroducing beverages and foods that contain calories.

Not as much as you think. Your body will shut down and stop dropping weight because it fears starvation.
