There is definately a degree of skill, strength, and hand/eye co-ordination, combined with lots of practice frames,necessary to be consistantly good, so yes, it is as much a sport as Golf, Baseball, tennis, or any other leisure-type sport. It's great, because sloppy, 340 lb. "Vinnie" from Whitestone, NY, can be a champion if he applies himself.;)

Yes, it's got rules and competition, and not just the judges opinion kind of competition (like boxing!) but counting pins and frames. It takes skill and strength and stamina. Sports commonly refer to activities where the physical capabilities of the competitor are the sole or primary determiner of the outcome (winning or losing), but the term is also used to include activities such as mind sports and motor sports where mental acuity or equipment quality are major factors.
