Help answer this question below.
I firmly agree! The reason some people answer the questions yet don't rate them can best be explained by those, who ignore ratings and are only looking for information.
Personally, I believe in giving other users useful ratings if it's based on factual support w/supporting links, or other references, or if it's a subjective question such as advice and the advice is deemed helpful, then I will give the user 100%.
Unfortunately, as with anything on-line, some users don't play by the rules.
I hope this helps to answer your question!
because they are only after points ...and as you know greedy people only ever look after one person ...themselves!
I agree with you except for the links. If someone has enough computer knowledge to use this site the have the knowledge to use google. I don't have time to do research for others. I don't mind answer based on my experience but if you need research then that's up to you. BTW some libraries offer classes on how to do research. My only exception to this is if I already no the website.
These people are like one way traffic...they want to receive points but don't want to give points. +5
They are only here to get to the top of the list. If I click on a question, I take the time to look at the other answers and rate them as I see fit. Even if there are a ton of answers. I got one one day that had over 150+ answers and less than a quarter had been rated. It took awhile, but I looked through them all.
Aren't those people called points farmers or something?
Good question!! But without people using the rating system and participating in AB as a whole, it will become (more) cliquish, lopsided, and the quality will go down. That is one thing AB is trying to avoid at all costs.
To be frank about it, they are just after the points and the "Most Inquisitive" title.
I an new to AB and got my first answer a few minutes ago and everytime i try to give a rating (which is a good one) it gives a pop up screen that asks me if i need another confirmation e-mail sent to me in order to give a rating. i have tried repeatedly to do this, but i won't let me. i have no idea what point system you are talking about, i just needed an answer and was directed thru links to this site. it was really helpful, but maybe some people are having the same problem that i'm having and it can't be helped.
So true! I know I dont have the time each day to check but I try to do back.
I try to go back once a week and catch the answers I missed. Sometimes if its an older question and Im not here, it slips by me without getting points. My apologizes to those Ive missed.
Has answerbag helped your curiosity?

It seems that the AB land of "woe is me" is shrinking and the AB land of "glad to see you here" is expanding. Do you agree? Know why?

You're reading Why do people ask a load of questions on AB and never look at or rate the answers. If you want this site to remain legit, work at it.

the ratings procedure is awkward. make it simple and the ratings will increase

agreed! You should be able to award as many positive, or negative ratings as you want, as long as it's one per answer.

Agreed. Too many times however, some of the the best answers and questions go unrated.
