  • Hmm, I think the two words that it is made up of are "rune" and "scape." To me, this makes a lot more sense.
  • Well the game deals a lot with 'runes' and 'rune' and 'runite' etc. so its probably from there. To be honest I think its just a clever play on words. It can mean both, but its just 'Runescape' to me.
  • i think it is rune and scape because if you notice it is set in olden times hence word rune (could also stand for runes runite or other stuff), and scape means like a realm place or world so it is a world based on or of rune
  • I am not sure. I noticed that recently too and led me to another question. Could have the creators known that the game would become addictive to a LOT of people?
  • Lol! Never occured to me before. Maybe it's a sign that the apocalypse is nigh?!
  • Probably comes from: rune scape... but in the other hand, in spanish the word "escape" means to run away from somthing... Run-Escape: Run, run away from something. That could be other posible meanning. Anyways I don't think the guy who created the first runescape (runescape classic) thought about the word meanning, I think he thought it was a good name and that's all... probably he didn't care about the meanning
  • hey every one I think that the word rune means Rune : any of the letters of an ancient alphabet cut into stone or wood in the past by the people of northern Europe, or any similar mark with a secret or magic meaning and the word scape used to form nouns referring to a wide view of a place such as landscape and seascape . Rune-scape .. nt sure btw 92 smithing laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
