~~no points please, tears of laughter ok~~ http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080305/od_nm/election_cemetery_dc_1 Quote from the article: ""It may be a laughing matter for some, but not for me," he said." Me: I am laughing my *ss off! Edit: The original article was deleted. Here is a video about it: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=63f_1206689841

It seems hilarious at first glance, but after a moment I'm left wondering two things: 1- What would actually be done with bodies of the people who do inevitably die in the village? and 2- What if they decide to exact the punishment for breaking that law on the families of the deceased?
-
G'day Arisztid, Thank you for your question. This would be one circumstance where the death penalty would be appropriate. :>) Regards
-
LOL. This kills me. As punishment goes I think the electric chair would be overkill. How about a nice massage couch for those that dared to defy the law?
-
I heard that on the news today. I hear it's because the local cemetery is full. I find it ironic that there was no planning to avert such a situation. I mean what kind of penalty to you give the recently departed? Certainly nothing as harsh as the death penalty. Or as minimal as a fine. Both would be redundant.
-
I think they should be buried with their butts sticking up out of the ground so that they may be used as a bicycle rack.
-
How can you punish the dead? My guess is they really wouldn't care..... this reminds me of the time the police had a warrent out and were looking for my baby brother and he was "looking down" at them, I'm sure laughing his ass off! :)
-
I read that on Yahoo news today too...while I was at work. I about fell out of my chair. How the hell do you "punish" someone for dying, exactly??
-
Ahhh, Bordeaux. The birthplace of the man that gave us the handkerchief so that we could cry at the funeral and laugh at such ridiculous headlines. Good one Arisztid! Ummmm, let's see. Donate the bodies to science is too practical. How about making them "extras" at Madame Tussuad's.
-
Wow, just wow. Do you think they could recycle them for spare parts?
-
Im not sure but I think I have heard the family gets fined. Or atleast the next of kin. There is a town in germany the name I can't remember but the punishment for a DUI, which Im sure has changed, was to drive you exactly 30 miles out of town and drop you off and let you walk back.
-
I guess the punishment could be that the government exacts a huge tax on you...don't think they'd have much luck getting you to pay it, however! :)

I love this Mayor. I read this a few days ago, we talked about it at work. We asked the same question you did. Our responses: The tall one: They have to be turned into Zombies. My Partner: Cival Service to them all until plots could be found for them. Part-timer: Used in store window displays.

1) "fire, brimstone, having to smell overripe brie, and no Jerry Lewis movies for eternity might be appropriate." Source: http://www.maddogblog.com/ 2) The punishment is not to be applicable to the deceased, of course, but rather to the heirs, in my opinion. Probably of a finantial kind.

British Airlines give them free first class seats. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17683917/

I don't think dying should ever be illegal. If anything, if it were possible, immortality should be illegal. It might keep new people from being born, and would therefore be selfish. Personally, I don't want to live in a world without cute kids.
-
Donating the body to science and/or using the body for people needing a transplant or maybe being left in the casket until a plot can be found.
-
gotta love beaurocracy... you can make life not worth living for the masses by making them too poor to afford teh essentials of life but if you are part of hte masses and can't afford the costs of death because of those economic slavers, you are a criminal
-
Mandatory DO-OVER!
-
Whomever made up that law is 100% RETARDED!!!!!!! You cannot control when you die, and you cannot discipline someone once they're gone. I think the law should be abolished NOT enforced.
-
I THINK THE PUNISHMENT SHOULD BE 10 DAYS IN PURGATORY. THAT WILL TEACH THEM NOT TO DIE UNTIL IT'S LEGAL!
-
At first, I was stunned at the absurdity of such a law. It rivals the worst, most stupid I've ever seen. I wanted to find out more and several articles published around the time in early 2008 provided the answers. Surely, it does not require a genius to understand what was going on. In a nutshell, for those interested, the local mayor was somewhat miffed with the authorities for not granting permission to enlarge the cemetery where he wanted. As a sign of protest and of course in an attempt to attract media attention he issued the decree that no-one was allowed to die. I love the English for their sense of humour but this is very good French humour.
