You need an electric bass guitar or standup electric bass guitar, depending on which you want to learn. either, will requre an amplifier.

If you are just learning, buy used instruments. they are cheaper and if it does not work out, you do not have a big investment.

-You need a good bass guitar (4string is good for beginners)
-An amp (i would recommend the roland cube-30 bass amp)
    -a strap
-A Gig bag or case if you are willing to bring it with you
-I would recommend a stand but you dont really need one
-You can just buy a bass pack for 150-250 dollars
