Help answer this question below.
I have been unemployed for almost a year and a half. There is NOTHING in my area. I also now have a knee injury so that decreases my chance of a job even more.
What do I do? Drown in debt, live off Arisztid, and hope something changes.
Find another job. That's as far as I've gotten. ;)
I am doing the back up plan. I got laid off on January 7th & have been collecting unemployment benefits for the last 6 weeks. I break even when you consider taking out the daycare & gas expenses every month. I am having a blast staying home with my daughte & taking her to the zoo & to see the manatees. We live in FL.
Stay at home with the kids for as long as we can afford to.
Since that would probably be a day I would put in some resumes and ask the local bakery if they have any hours I could pick up in the meantime since I used to bake for them.
I have a Class A CDL. I can drive 18 wheelers and companies across the U.S. are in need of drivers. In state drivers can make up to 100k a year, out of state drivers can do over 100k depending on if they get paid by the mile, and in town drivers can make 50k on up depending on what they haul.
Guess I'd have to put my navigator to use and go back to driving a taxi.
Becoming a full time Child Minder as i am already trained.
i'll just find another job....the end of one job is just a new beginning of a new challenge....i'm a very, very competitive person.
Too put in for early retirement immediately!
I am a Gardener and have about 20 clients, when one moves away I pick up another.
Security in numbers I guess.
curl up into a little ball, and eat ben and jerry's
Rob the bank next door. Been digging a tunnel for 18 years !! Don't tell anyone please,
phone my old boss he's still crying cause i left.. hes phoned me loads of times to ask if i'll work for him again... either that or a hit man but the latter sounds more fun..lol
I guess I could go back being a Gigolo, but I lost money at that...
I would probably go to work full time as a Realtor with my husband.
write love songs....lol
Go back to construction. Orrrrrr....Pimpin'.
If Hubby got laid off his job, I would file for my Social Security retirement benefits. I currently don't receive it because it would increase our income taxes to about 80% of my SS check.
AB full time. Just hang out.
I will apply at McDonald's, WalMart, Home Depot, Walgreens or any other retailer or department store.
Get on unemployment and learn some new skills. The US is in serious need of manual labor workers like: plumbers, electricians, wood workers, masons, truck drivers, and anything that isn't valued by our current standards as "fit labor" for an intellectual. But guess what! all of the manual workers are starting to make more then us collage grads.
I work for myself ... (web business)
without blowing my own trumpet:)
I do have my farm and a couple of rental properties for back-up.
My door is never locked and anyone who passes is very welcome to stay.
Thankyou
ps; I would offer the Monster a job here anytime ... so fear not :)

I have no back up plan. I can't be fired or laidoff. I retired.
dip into my savings, and start looking that day. if that fails, go to unemployment. coffee shops!
get an easy low paying job(high paying if you can) and use that job only when needed... sorry if you are laid off.
Well, I am a stay-at-home mom right now, so I would have to be doing a pretty poor job to get fired. But when I was working, my husband and I always lived check to check and just prayed that our jobs were secure enough. Funny though, when we decided to put all of my earnings aside for a few months before I left my job to see how we would fare, we did fine. We just quit eating out, renting movies, cancelled the internet and cable, turned off the cellphones, and traded down our new car. We were still remarkably happy.
I'd probably have a stern word with myself since I own the company. :)
I have never been fired and I am careful not to do anything to get fired.
If I was to be laid off before June of 2010, I would get 2 years of severance pay. It's in my contract.
I would look into displaced workers benefits. I would sign up with an employment agency or go back to school to learn a new skill.
CIA Hit Man
That is very unlikely, but since you asked...
... I'd probably set up a small business using my savings, and stop, in the meantime, travelling abroad with my mother.
I can do a lot, but I'd probably start doing weekend tow truck immediately and do IT contracts during the week.
drink till my money runs out and then become a ward of the state...
Manwhoring. :)

So sorry to read that. My son was laid off in November, and our news headlines say unemployment is the highest in 11 years.

We're really lucky, because we are his landlord, and we were able to make the payments on the house while waiting for his tax refund. We're going to be pretty tight if it goes on too long.

Thank you. Turns out I have arthritis in the knee, a severely sprained ligament, and a kneecap that moves all over the place. I start at the pain clinic in 2 weeks. Ugh.

It is so bad here that people with MASTERS degrees are applying for menial jobs out here. Keysha is highly skilled and has submitted hundreds of applications... many hundreds. People who have rotten jobs hold onto them for dear life.

I firmly believe that America is in a depression, not a recession.

ahh i'm so sorry guys. Where do you live again? Michigan? I dont know if you have kids or not or would be willing to move but other states may have better job opportunities
by Jane on March 5th, 2008
Michigan. Keysha has family here and cannot move.

I blame the companies that are outsourcing all of our jobs. They are the ones responsible for destroying our countries financial economy. I hope having Obama as Prez will change all that.
Well them and profit staffing agencies for getting between employers and employees. They have no right to live amongst us humans.
As for having nothing in your field, you need to look elsewhere. There is always something slightly similar available for what you studied. My wife went to school for American immigrant literature studies. Now she has a job as a proofreader / project manager in a graphic design Co. (she makes three times as much then if she was working in her fild at a school.)
The skills you have can be applied in sooo many other arias of the work force dont sell yourself short.

I have a blown-out knee. So I need a sit-down job. I have an interview on Friday the 13, so can only hope it is not an unlucky day for me.

Good Luck Keysha. My thoughts and Best Wishes are with you.
