  • If the flesh looks reddish and it looks fresh and does not smell. Specially if it does not smell. In any event it should be washed very well and cook well at a very high temperature to eliminate the possibility of salmonella.

  • I follow a simple rule, if you have to question if it is good or not throw it out. No need to take a chance and get sick.
  • any doubt means it is trash...no matter what
  • Give it a sniff. It it still smells like a fresh chicken, clean, almost sweet, then it's still good. But if yo know for a certainty that it has been in unsafe conditions, they don't risk it, especially if someone weak, young or very old will be eating it.
  • If in doubt throw it out. Meat, and chicken in particular, is just not worth taking the risk with. Even if cooking might kill of the majority of the bacteria, the toxins that the bacteria produce (which is what actually makes you ill) are still present. Unless you KNOW it's ok to use, just chuck it.
