    You really should have power of attorney before doing it, but it is not illegal if you have their permission. Just be sure to get it in writing.

    Only if they will not protest it or you have legally been given permission.

    For example, my wife can sign my name, and I hers. Usually we're with each other (she recently hurt her writing hand, and I had to fill out all the medical forms for her). As long as she knows and will accept MY version of her sig as hers...

    (Remember, there ARE still people who sign with an "X"... THOSE usually require a witness or two to say "Yes... That's him/her.")
