Eat bananas. They help to break down the lactic acid that causes soreness.

Actually a hot shower and heating pad is not the right answer. You should either use an ice pack or use something like icy hot. I use a product called biofreeze. When you use a heating pad, it actually causes more swelling by allowing the blood vessels to dilate allowing more blood flow. You want to reduce that, and you need to use an ice pack for that. You should use heat after 48 hours.

Massage is a good way of getting that lactic acid out also. That's what those vibrating massagers are really for !

Riding a bike really helps if you have problems with your knees. After that, ice like crazy.

You can also try a good warm down after working out....it may help. My sports coach had us warm down after practices. Give it a try. :0)
