Buddhists would say the lack of desire is the key to happiness. No desire for material objects would be blissful.
That would not be a bad idea to be more conservative. I just hope we get over the materialism and become more cultural and civil.

Yeah, I read some study that showed once your basic needs have been met, material objects won't make you any happier.
I think the world would be a finer place, a healthier place if people were happier and satisfied with simpler lives, using less, impacting less, and were more generous towards all, humble enough to think of other people's need and give way so everyone could be happy. But these things can't ever be reached without people's hearts being changed first. No government or party, or great leader can accomplish this.
