Yes,
Police officers cannot accept cash of any kind.
Its a liability issue.
It, by some standards, could be considered a bribe, if the transaction were videoed taped and used to discredit the police officer.
I am sure they can. There are some jurisdictions in the south where you can pay the cop. You'll get a receipt and everything.
I'm pretty sure a cop can legally do anything he/she wants.
Yes, I don't know if that's even legal, and I wouldn't advise trying it. It could be misconstrued as bribery, which is a pretty serious crime as opposed to getting a speeding ticket.
At any rate, when you get the ticket, you have to submit to an informal "arraignment", meaning you plead guilty or not guilty to the speeding charge (usually by mail, if you plan to just pay the ticket and move on with your life). Your fine may go down if you plead guilty (because it saves the state in court costs), or you may go to the court date assigned to you and plead your case, at which point the ticket could get dismissed entirely.
Bottom line, don't try to give a cop cash. Even if it were kosher to pay a ticket this way, it also means you are waiving a lot of your legal rights.
I would say yes it is illegal. Their job is to issue tickets NOT collect the fine.
In wyoming you are not able to pay the cop that gives you the ticket. You must go to the court house and pay it on or before the date wrote on the ticket.
Ok thank you all for of your comments. I was just kind of iffy on the subject seeing as I have payed cash like so before but thanks to you I now know better.
A cop is not allowed to accept cash for a ticket :)
I'm a truckdriver and live in it most of the time. How can authorities search my sleeping quarters at will without a warrant? Shouldn't that be considered my home?

I was pulled over for doing a u turn. the officer who pulled me over told another officer who didn't witness the u turn to write me a ticket. Since the issuing officer of the ticket didn't witness the event, can i fight the ticket?

I am going to trust the cop on this one :)
Besides, in NH you have 30 days to mail it in. If you can't come up with a check and a stamp in that time, you kind of deserve what happens next.
