Most of our outlets are flip up for on, down for off. However, in the hall, it depends which end of the hall was last used, sometimes its the reverse. Edit: one light is a dimmer, and that is a dial for lighter or dimmer.
-
To turn the lights off I push to the top of the rocker (up). Australia.
-
You would flip them up. I'm from Indiana. I wanted to also say though that sometimes too, it depends on how your light switches were installed. The reason I mention this, is because. One of the houses that I used to live in had light switches that should have been pushed up for on and down for off. But the opposite was true.
-
Mine are push on, then turn to brightness you prefer. Indiana, and you?
-
That depends! Usually I flick the switch up, but I have some lights that have two switches, so it depends which switch I'm at and where I switched off last! I'm in the US.
-
Flip it up in the US.
-
Most are up for on but the bathroom and kitchen are left right for on. I live in Miami.
-
Flip it up or down. I live in the U.S.
-
Up. I live in the U.S.
-
When I turn them on, I flick them up, down when I turn them off. I live in the U.S.
-
In Florida as well as in Connecticut and Pennsylvania we turn the switch up to turn the light on. According to normal practice in electrical installations the switch is set so that up is on and down is off, except for 2 way switches which off and on depends on which switch was used last.
-
I either flick up and down or push or turn the knob. (if that made any sense.) (I'm from sunny California!)

In some rooms it depends on which switch was last used to switch the lights off (multiple switches are connected to the same lights) but for the single switch rooms up in "on" and down is "off." I live in the USA.
-
Up. California.
-
I switch down. I am from India.
-
Depends on where the lights were last turned off. There are some rooms with switches at the exit and entry point if you will. Usually up though. I live in the United States.
-
iv never thought about it until i read the question and i truely didnt know, after 25 years of switching lights on and off i have never really paid attention to which way they go. your question made me go round the house checking all my lightswitches mine are all up except for the ones with 2 switches im in the US. what a simple but fascinating question lol.
-
In my bathroom they are on their sides.
-
Both. I have two switches. on one door and on the other side of the romm ther's another door, so there is another switch.PuerTo Rico:)

I live in the USA now. Switches go up to go on. In Ireland / UK . Switches go down to go on. Of course if it's a 3 way circuit, it could be either.
