  • I haven't owned one by I have known many of them, as pets and as breeders. They are very different from other parrots. They are not one person birds but do better with a whole family. They need LOTS of attention or they tend to get bad habits like feather plucking and very neurotic. But you can't force them to like people as they are very shy and cautious. They also may turn to biting. But they are great pets with time spent on them and terrific copy cats. Great talkers! I've heard some that sound like the dishwasher or the modem dialing up LOL!!!
  • Hi AG's are actually a one person bird. They tend to bond to only one person & can be quite nasty to anyone else in the home or entering the home. It can be prevented but it doesn't always work. Apart from the usual, talking ability & intelligence, they're a highly strung & needy bird. They can develop many behaviour problems easily if they're not cared for correctly. They tend to cling to their bonded human for attention more than enjoying their toys & play gyms. Their diet: Well the long term use of a pellet diet for AG's is just starting to rear it's ugly head. They do a great deal better on a natural food diet than they do on a pellet diet. AG's do make really great pets as long as their needs are met on a daily basis with several hours of interaction, the correct diet, large enough play gym, cage, space to play & plenty of chew toys as well as interactive toys.
