EAT LOCALLY I think it is good in theory at fast glance, and I am sure it has a far reaching impact to trade. but I think it is a healthier way for us to eat. Welcome to Locavores: http://www.locavores.com/ We are a group of concerned culinary adventurers who are making an effort to eat only foods grown or harvested within a 100 mile radius of San Francisco for an entire month. We recognize that the choices we make about what foods we choose to eat are important politically, environmentally, economically, and healthfully.

Great question! I believe buying locally helps the environment and my health at the same time. I'm willing to pay more perhaps because it's just me and I'm not buying for a family. But I decided I didn't need peaches flown all the way from Chile nor asperagus from Peru. "The Omnivore's Dilema" was a very informational source for me.

Well, I think when I'm eating apples from 5 miles up the road instead of apples from washington, it probably doesn't make a difference. But for international food....unless, like, the entire state of California decides it's going to produce all its food independently, i don't imagine it will dent export countries.
