Question

Help answer this question below.

I have a tape made in 1988 that has been stored for several years. It will not fast forward or rewind. Nor will it play. It just seems to sit still. The VCR is fairly new and runs all other tapes. What could be wrong?

Try taking the tape to a video restoration expert. They might be able to restore it and make it playable again. Some types of videotape degrade with time, 'sticky-shed' is a problem that might have happened to your tape.

Your tape problem is not where you stored it, its the tape itself. first, i would try the tape on someone else's vcr. to make sure your vcr is not the problem. if your vcr is running properly, next i would take the tape in my hands and try manually, with your finger, to move the tape in both directions.insert your finger into the white wheel section of the tape cassette. if it is frozen, you are going to need professional help.

In the yellow pages, locate a business that works on vcr's. this business should have someone that can take the tape cassette apart for an inspection. it may cost you. is the tape and contents worth it?

- Thank you for your answer. I believe you are right. It is frozen. I have tried the white wheels and it doesn't turn. Now I will try to figure out what I want to do with it.

Mate it sounds like watever was on the tape has been wiped. If you stored the tape near an electrical or magnetic appliances then this is what most likely happened. However, it could be that the tape is just very old and it doesn't work anymore.

- Thank you for your answer. I don't think it is where I had it stored. All the other tapes of the same age work all right. It acts as though the tape is stuck.
