You're reading I think the ego is the reason for most of the trouble people have, it is why we feel insulted, hurt, cheated, embarrassed, have low self esteem, poor self image, etc. etc. How much ego do we need to survive and why should we be so sensitive?

i wouldn't identify the 'ego' as a quantifiable thing or a place or something that can be managed consciously as we might manage a math problem or spell a word...everything experiential is deposited in the conscious and/or unconscious mind where might be found the 'source' of ego, how much we are in contact with this embodiment of ourselves i guess would be how much we are in contact with our 'center', the measure of 'enlightenment'...i wonder if we are even aware of much of this construction? seems like i have gotten away from my own question, lol, ill give this some more thought, thank you much for your response dragonlady, parsec

You're right and I quite like your 'interpretation' above, I suppose thats exactly it though, most of us are not aware of whats being "Deposited" as such, its all mostly subconscious. There are so many factors that influence the process and how much of it we "consciously" control in our daily lives points to our 'enlightenment'? I think if one makes the effort you can manage or try to manage the process as if it were a quantifiable thing, as you put it x
