To "spike" generally means to put anything extra into a drink which the drinker is not aware of in order to increase or alter it's effects- normally it would be undetectable by smell, tate or appearance. The addition of vodka is common, but legal and illegal drugs are also sometimes added, including soporific drugs such as Rohypnol, which are often referred to as "date rape" drugs as they have been used to sedate or lower inhibitions or promote memory loss in victims prior to the offence.
