  • It is "possible" to put ANY engine into ANY car, if you have enough money. I have seen 454 engines in Chevy Vegas, VW bugs, Ford Pintos, and 3 wheeled trikes. That's what we in the car biz call "hot rodding". All it takes is cash! :)
  • why not swap your 454 chevy engine for a 460 ford? it will drop right in...a 454 would fit with the help of a cutting torch, welder and lotsa time and money.
  • Why would you want to do anything to an 88 Tbird?
  • Put about anything larger than a 351 in an 88 T-Bird is asking for trouble. Now older pre computer cars was another matter. But with a GM 454 and a Ford C6 or similar transmission you are going to run into computer problems. Bad enough that year T-birds biggest engine was the 5.0. Then with that GM engine you are going to have a time mating the exhaust. And probably change componnents like alternator, power steering air conditioner and heater. But hey, when finished I bet you have a $20.000 car. Just that anyone you sell it to will regard it as a $1000 or less hoop de. One think I learned though. If you have to ask the question, you're definitely not ready to do it yourself. And that really is the only sensible way to do it. To anyone that has a Ford 460 proir to the injected 90's models, I offer this advice. Lose the Autolite 4350 carb and replace with an after market. Did that on both a 76 and 77 pickup and went from 9 MPG to 15 MPG, and even added an overhead camper. The 4350 is a pig. And the replacement performs better everywhere except FOT.
  • Of note, I have had Thunderbirds with 5.0, 4.5 L V8's, and 3.8 L sixes. The 3.8 pulled hills best of the three, while the 4.5 had the most pep and acceleration. The 5.0? It gave the best gas mileage. Not exactly what one would expect. All of them 80's models.
