Help answer this question below.
It can be very helpful to have a doula or older female family member there to help with the delivery. My wife's mother was there, and she was a great comfort to my wife. Just make sure that BOTH the mother and father agree to the arrangement.
No one but the doctors and nurses, I had to have cesarean section due to having Preeclampsia (toxemia) and no one else was allowed in as they had to fully sedate me.
I just had my husband.. Everyone was allowed in afterwards, but we wanted the experience to be between just him and I. :)
My husband, my mom and my mother-in-law (much to my chagrin) were all in there. I really didn't plan on or want my MIL in there, but it was too far along in the process before I really even realized she was still in there.
It depends on the comfort zone of the mother and what the mother and father want.
I had a big medical team (which were very, very important at various stages) - husband is one thing, theater staff, doctors and nurses are another.
I haven't given birth but I have attended several, family and friends. One birth, my husband was the one who delivered the child for a friend who didn't have a husband. I think that whoever you want to invite is up to you. Some want it more like an intimate time between husband and wife. Some want whole families there. Most of the births I've attended have been home births so it was very flexible as to who was there.
My Mom and my significant other, was in the room with me. And afterwards, my Dad came in. It was very nice, and they were all very supportive.
Just the medical personnel.
I'd have loved to have had my husband with me, but it wasn't allowed then.
He's the only non-medical person I'd have wanted. It's a very private time.
I had the father of both of my kids in the delivery room. I would've loved to have my mom in there. It's totally up to you who you want in the delivery room.
When my sister had my nephew there was a plethora of ppl in there.... 1 dr, 4 nurses, me, my mom, her 3female best friends, 2male friends, and our aunt.... just depends on 1) what u feel comfortable with and 2) what the hospital allows
Just the doctors and nurses.
If you both feel happy with having more than one person with you, there's nothing wrong with it. :)

You're reading When you gave birth, who did you have in the delivery room with you? What do you think of having more than the father present?

Thank you, I agree it should be a mutual decision!

Awesome answer! I never thought I'd see the word "Doula" on AB! YAY! I am personally a homebirth person, though I now that is not the norm. :)

Home birth is actually a HUGE thing in this area of Northern Indiana. I really wanted to do that but because I ended up with a c-section for my first one, there isn't a midwife that felt safe doing a home birth. I understand.

That's great! I am almost your 'neigbor' here in Iowa. :)The homebirth community isn't huge here, but it is gaining some momentum! My friend just had her third homebirth, this one unassisted by a midwife. She (with help of her husband) had the baby in a large tub with her two little ones looking on in amazement. What a beautiful way to have a baby, alone as a family! :)
