Also, there is a breed in Africa called the Kuri, that actually spends as much time as possible in water.This is because their skin has very little resistance to the sun, so they must move from watering hole to watering hole.
They can yes, it really depends on their situation. If it is threating they will, and other wise it might be hot and they might take a swim. They do not do it on a day-to-day basis though. There are certain species of sea cows on Islands you can see swimming and they swim reguarly. I hope this helps!
