I drive a 1987 Renault Master Petrol van which runs perfectly,except for yesterday driving back from Scotland on the motorways,whenever I encountered any sort of incline the engine would slowly lose all power backfire (from exhaust and carb) then stall.

    sounds like you are loosing fuel pressure or have a restriction in the lines.
