What do I do about excessive phlegm when singing. It causes me to have to swallow frequently and I can't sustain a phrase.

    I would go to an ears, nose and throat specialist. It could be allergies or an infection. Sinus problems too, I live in an area with terrible air quality and suffer from sinus problems which makes it difficult sometimes to sing correctly.

    Have you tried reducing your dairy product and sugar intakes? these can affect phlegm production.

    Drink TONS of water. Take an over the counter mucus thinner (such as Mucinex.)

    Hopefully, this is a temporary problem you are having. If it is happening for a length of time, I'd recommend you see an allergist and/or an ENT (Otolaryngologist)to pinpoint the cause of what appears to be an excessive amount of phlegm.

    If you are singing professionally, or as part of your schooling, I'd recommend calling the closest music school for a referral to the types of doctors suggested above, to be sure that you get one who is familiar with (or at least considerate of,) the special needs of singers.
