Help answer this question below.
When a word ends in a silent e, like love, e is usually dropped when adding a suffix that begins with a vowel. Result - Lovable
The exceptions are words that end in ge or ce. Examples: serviceable, knowledgeable, manageable
http://academic.cuesta.edu/acasupp/AS/803.htm
The reason for leaving the e in the ge and ce words is to preserve the s and j soft pronunciations of c and g in words like traceable or manageable. Take out the e's, and look what's left - tracable and managable, which would be pronounced as "trak able" and
"ma NAG able" or "MAN ag able".
Good question. Hope this is helpful.
