  • A farad = one coulomb per volt. If the capacitors have the same charge are in series, the voltage is twice what it would have been, so the charge per volt is half as big. Therefore it must be 30 farads. Another way to think of it: The closer you bring the plates of a capacitor, the more charge the capacitor can store per volt. Imagine two capacitors back to back: the plates are further apart, therefore the capacitance is less.
