I have found it to be norton

I use Norton Anti Virus which is quite good.
-
Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4 It updates daily and removes spyware and trojans quite good. Norton sometimes calls registry errors "trojans" so I would say not to rely on it.
-
AVG for antivirus coupled with Zone Alarm for a firewall.
-
I would recommend using AVG or Avast being free and Nod32 if you want to pay for it....Norton tends to be a resource hog.

Every OS that is not Windows is a good start for vaccination.

AVG Free is good, but you can't get away with just standalone anti-virus protection anymore. SuperAntiSpyware is a good supplement to your current protection, as is Ad-Aware. And both are, mercifully, free. I have found Norton and McAfee to be memory pigs, and overpriced to boot.

Never use Norton anti virus (or indeed Symantec anything). It is, as others have said a resource hog and having worked in the tech support industry I can confirm that it causes more problems than it's worth. It's also riddled with spyware and unreliable. Use AVG free edition.
