Can anyone recommend a good historical anime? Besides Ruroni Kenshin and the Samurai X series.

Well, it depends on what type of historical anime u wanna watch ya? If you want those Japanese Olden Era, then you may try Bailisk and Samurai Deeper Kyo or if you want some different taste then you may try Samurai Champloo too....But if you are refering historical anime other than Japan side, you may watch Le Chavelier Deon, trust me, the characters in it have deep deep influence in the real world historical era :)

Saiyuki Nitaboh Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto Hakkenden Samurai 7 Otogi Zoushi Zipang Peacemaker Twelve Kingdoms Ayakashi Ayashi Wrath of the Ninja Ninja Scroll Newer, may or may not be fansubbed yet: Shigurui Seirei no Moribito Immortal Blade Sengoku Gakudou I know you said you've watched Rurouni Kenshin, but if you haven't seen the Samurai X movies yet, they're definitely worth looking into. The quality of the animation is higher, and the story is much more seriously portrayed then the oft funny and lighthearted nature of the anime series.
