  • You won't really loose weight with a diet, you just won't 'gain' weight. I mean, it's possible to loose weight with a diet if you eat -so little- that your body becomes starved for energy and begins to burn off your fat just to keep you alive, but this 'really' isn't the healthy choice : P Basically, eat healthily and excercise if you want to loose weight - diets are just a 'part' of the program, and in general just mean you don't 'gain' weight. (Note: Muscle weighs more than fat does, so if you are 'really' working out you may actually gain weight, but you'll loose body fat and in general look slimmer, etc)
  • All those things are great but you also need to include some more protein and carbohydrate. Maybe make your sandwich from wholemeal bread and include some meat/fish/soya etc into your evening meal? Try to eat a range of foods but just eat smaller portions. And of course taking some exercise every day will help you to lose weight.
  • The diet you listed would be alright for an adult who's trying to lose weight but I wouldn't recommed it for a growing teenager. I would suggest the following if you'd like to lose weight instead of the diet you've listed there in your question: Breakfast: - 2 pieces of whole wheat toast with a very small amount of peanut butter on each (maybe 1 tablespoon for both) - high fibre/low sugar cereal with 1/4 to 1/2 cup of milk - fruit salad you made yourself (1 cup serving) (1 apple, 2 oranges sectioned, the orange juice squeezed out of the oranges after they've been sectioned, 1/4 cup of apple juice and 1 peach/pear/plum) Instructions for sectioning an orange can be located here: http://beyondsalmon.blogspot.com/2006/02/how-to-section-orange.html Lunch: - sandwich on whole wheat bread with a slice of cheese (preferably not processed cheese) and a slice of meat (use mustard instead of butter/margarine/mayonnaise as it's got no fat) - glass of milk (1 cup) - piece of fruit Dinner: (steaming reduces if not eliminates the nutrients from being released into the water you're cooking stuff in) - rice (steamed) - vegetables (steamed) - chicken breast (grilled or baked in the oven with a lemon, salt, pepper maranade) - low fat ground turkey meat and ground chicken breast can be made into hamburgers or meatballs or as a meat topping and are very tasty Putting these 4 things together makes for a nice stir fry or if you steamed them they go together as well. Snacks throughout the day or dessert after a meal: - vegetables and dip (dip being low fat salad dressing) - fruit/homemade fruit salad - low/no sugar, high fibre granola bar (these can be found at health food stores and have honey in them to give them sweetness instead of sugar) - unsweetened 100% vegetable/fruit juice (from concentrate is okay to drink as long as there's no added sugar. Ideally fresh juice made from juicing fresh fruits and vegetables is best but it can be expensive) - 2 or 3 digestive cookies (the kind you give to babies not the ones with chocolate on them) - 8 glasses of water a day Exercise is a must! Take a walk around the mall and go window shopping if you have no money. Do a fast walk around your city block a couple times. If you're not used to exercise then go to a street that has no hills. If you are then go up hills to give yourself a better work out. Have your cholesterol levels checked and your blood sugar levels checked once a month to make sure you're still in a healthy range. Measure your stomach, thighs, upper arms (bicep area) and waist and compare the inches you have either gained or lost every 1 to 2 weeks. Do NOT weigh yourself on a scale. When you lose fat and gain muscle you gain weight because muscle weighs more then fat. Good luck! Richard Shines
  • First, a 14 year old should be very careful when dieting, especially for a girl. You can mess up your hormones and growth/development if you deprive yourself that early. Call your doctor to discuss it. You can and will lose weight on a diet, if it is healthy. You will do more than just "maintain" as long as you burn more calories than you eat (and you burn about 2,000 calories per day doing no exercise i think). Check out www.caloriesperhour.com to calculate your daily caloric needs. Your diet looks too restrictive; you won't be eating enough calories. If you are too low, your metabolism could actually slow down to the point where you start gaining weight. Again, that website has a lot of information about this and other healthy tips. Drink lots of water, eat lots of fiber (at least 5-6 fruits/vegetables), and make sure to eat a good amount of protein. You should eat frequenty enough that you aren't overcome by hunger, too. Also, make sure to exercise. Even 30-45 mins of exercise per day will help tremendously. If you diet without exercising, your body might not respond well. You could do some damage. Call your doctor and set up a plan! 14 years old is very young to diet. In fact, you may only need to change your lifestyle and habits to get in shape without having to start a hardcore diet.
  • That diet is terrible. You will probably become ill or suffer from fatigue if you do that. Truth is, eating such a small amount will only decrease your metabolism and when you get off the diet you're going to pile on the lbs quicker than before for a short while. You want a diet? It's simple. You eat normally, this means actual breakfast, not sugar coated, normal lunch like a small pasta dish, sandwiches etc and a normal dinner with a few treats from time to time. The key to this diet is simple - cal intake and exercise. If you're female, you need 2000 kcal, so, instead, have 1500 healthy kcals a day and do some light exercise. Or have 2000 and do a proper exercise program. Losing weight is simple! It's totally natural, you'll get your vitamins and minerals, you'll stay full, you'll lose weight and you'll gain fitness. No bloody "diet" can do all of that. Enjoy.
