I suppose 10 minutes, and you are having a coffee while you wait.
-
Wait for what? To shoot someone?

Are you asking about the waiting period? If so, then you have to go through that BEFORE you buy the gun. The waiting periods were instituted to give the gun dealer time to do a background check so that he could be sure that there is not a reason you should not have on. They are also to serve as a cooling off period so that the buyer doesn't engage in some spur of the moment stupidity. Thus, if the buyer does do something illegal with it, it makes it easier to prove premeditation. Once you have bought the gun, you only have to wait as long as it is necessary to get it to a safe location to start using it.

i don't know if its just Illinois but 5 days is the waiting period.

I know in Alaska that there is a 24hrs cool down time. That means they wanted to stop people from buying fire arms in a fit of rage and then go out and kill some one that pissed off the gun buyer.

if you go to a gun show, there is no waiting.
