  • The general society dont like anything that goes against the grain its always been that way.
  • i personally like being odd :)
  • Nobody likes things that are strange or different, not even people like you or I. No matter how open minded you are, you'll still choosing spending time with people like you over spending time with people who are different. It's normal to be concerned with what is normal because no one wants to be an outcast, or at least, few people. It hurts to be rejected, to be disliked and hated, and no one wants that, so many people try to be as normal as possible. Being unique and different isn't okay because it's strange, or it's confusing. When people are confused, or afraid, afraid their way of life will change, they become angry. When you're a minority, you always seem strange to the majority, and thus you are confusing because you're not like everyone else, and you inspire fear/confusion/anger.
  • People feel insecure and threatened when faced with behaviors and beliefs that are different, or even contradictory, to their own. It rattles our world-view which puts our behavior and beliefs as "normal". People don't like to question that they could be less than "right". People fear that if others differ than them too greatly, they might not share the same sense of values; thus, they may be harmful people. Personally, "normal" people freak me out. What did they say about the BTK killer and Dahmer? "They seemed so normal."
  • Actually, I have a perfect Japanese Proverb for this. The nail that sticks out, gets pounded down. Going with others makes it easier to have friends, and social ties-which are basic human needs. When you are unique and completely unique, friends are harder to come by. If I was the only one on earth who hated Metallica, and everyone else loved Metallica, they wouldn't be too keen on me would they? Thank the lord our world isn't so black and white.
  • There is nothing "normal" about me, there never has been and there never will be. I've never understood why people would not want to be "normal" based on what society expects. I've been myself since I can remember. I think part of your question should include "as long as you don't negatively interfere with someone else's life". I enjoy being myself, but not at the expense of others.
  • EXACTLY!!!! And wtf defines normal?? I think that everyone is strange and interesting but no one wants to be themselves. To answer my own question normal to most is someone similar to themselves, but we are all different so who is this one individual that everyone should be like?? I love and embrace every goofy, different, and strange thing about myself because it makes me me.
