Answerbag is a large enterprise that to remain viable should require some profitability, so, does someone have an estimate of what cost is involved for keeping the servers running and for their maintenance and to implement network security and manpower?

I don't believe that AB is that large. It doesn't need to be.It is INTERNET based and is basically a self running business. Wish I'd have thought of it.They have many different sponsors if you look at the adds. These adds are the bread and butter and I'm sure provide ample revenue to the founder(s).

Is it only advertising or do service providers pay when people signed on to them log on to certain sites

It seems to me like the cost of running a large and secure website like Answerbag would requite a lot of resource and plenty of manpower. The features of Answerbag are really amazing. All the things you can do here and all the fun you can have is just great. So I can't imagine that it would not require a good amount of resources to keep the website up and running all the time.

It doesn't HAVE to be huge. With all due respect, i could run AB from my house. I could lease a rack and bandwidth from a provider, buy a few servers and have programmers working from their homes. You'd need maybe 10 people to run the show.
