Why in school grading is there A, B, C, D and F, but not E?

    Because in the lower grades, such as kindergarten and first grade, teachers use "E" to represent "Excellent". Having an "E" in the grading system would confuse students. A student could think that he is doing really well in Calculus b/c he has an "E" in that class, but in actuality, the student is doing very poorly because an "E" is lower than a "D".

    I would guess that they coudln't find a meaning for E.(Like F means failure.)

    When I was a kid they talked about including an 'E for effort'. But nothing actually came of it. Surprising in this PC environment.
