Question

Help answer this question below.

The first time I waxed my brand new 2006 Nissan 350Z, the front bumper and hood came out looking like it had seen 80,000 miles of rock chips. The vehicle has been protected with a front end bra. What could be wrong?

The downside of a bra is that it traps dirt, contaminants, and other paint-killing things between the material and the hood. If you don't take it off frequently and clean everything you can get rust (from trapped water), corrosion, scratches, etc. Chips on the otherhand, like you are describing, seems odd. The bra would soften and deflect any blows from rocks on the road, and unless you are getting hit by 10lb rocks I don't think they would leave a dent.

Since the problem is localized to the bumper and hood, my first thought is the bra is behind all this.

Try driving without it unless you do lots of highway work.

A polishing compound should also get those problems out if they are just superficial. If you get them out, wax the area heavily.
