  • Support it with something, make a man-made cast of your own, take paper mache and put it around your hand.
  • 1) "Derrick has been complaining that his wrist hurts him for a few months now. Whenever he picks something heavy up or moves it a certain way it would hurt him. I kept telling him that he should go to the doctor and see what is wrong. He always would say that it would get better it just needs some more time. So yesterday he went riding and when he came home his wrist was really bothering him so he finally decided that he would go see a doctor. The doctor told him that he broke his scaphoid bone. The doctor said that his wrist has been broken for a long time and that the scaphoid bone is the worst bone in the wrist to break. Many times it never heals on it's own and when the scaphoid bone does heal on it's own it takes a really long time. He has to go back to the doctor in 3 weeks to see if it is making any progress and if not he will have to have surgery. Derrick will be in his cast for a longtime." I an understand his waryness to refill it. if hes afraid ill get dependant on it hes right in a way....I don't like pain it hurts me!! monday at my appointment he said "another 2 weeks in my splint" (painfull 2 weeks :( ) he tried me on ultracet which did not help and tuesday gave me 10 vicodin. thy work the best for the pain. what can I do? it hurts so bad and he may not refill my pills....any suggestions to help him understand my woes? painfully plain[/b] Theresa Jones, RN - Fri Apr 08, 2005 10:25 am Hi shiv, Ouch indeed! Your pain should have significantly subsided by this point and time. Have you had repeat xrays since your fracture? If you have not, there certainly needs to be. Notify your doctor and explain that you are still experiencing significant pain as this should be a "red light" so to speak that there is a problem with placement. Sincerely, Rntdj shiv - Tue Apr 12, 2005 1:59 pm ty for the response! yes I have been in 2 times since 3/8/05 (date of accident) for re x-rays. he says it is healing just like it is suppost to. I go again next week for another check. my fingers are still very swollen and if I brush them against anything it hurts. last week after I made my first post here, one of my dogs got under my feet and I bumped it very very hard on a chair, my splint twisted a bit and it hurt. I tried to call my specialtist 5 - 6 times but only get an answering machine. I left my name & # but they still havent called back. $ is a problem or id have gone to the emergency room for a rex-ray or id find a diff. doctor. I live 45 miles from waco, tx where my specialtist is. its hard for me to drive myself there when my husband is at work + w/him not calling me back all these days im not sure what to do. I know he gets busy but I cant help if it hurts still, call me a weenie lol! it is getting better but the hard bump I did to it has made it very sore again. should my fingers still be swollen since 3/8/05 ? if the x-rays show the bone is where it is supposed to be and healing right....what do you think could be the problem then? what do you think he can or will do about it? ty for bearing with me, not easy typing one handed. sorry for the 50 question quiz! :( ty for your help! :D Theresa Jones, RN - Tue Apr 12, 2005 11:00 pm Hi shiv, I will try and answer your questions. You said your doctor's office has an answering machine. On this recording is there also a message that says if this is a medical emergency etc. etc. My point is, the number that's given to you is probably the hospital where he is practicing. If you aren't getting any results from the office, call the hospital, ask the operator if this doctor is on call, have him paged and give them your telephone number. When he calls you back, explain what happened. Now for your swelling, most of it should have considerably subsided by this point unless you have been letting it hang downward. If this is the case, elevate it on pillows above the level of your heart. This will not only decrease the swelling but also the pain. I hope this information is helpful. • In the olden days comfrey was know as "bone wort" and "bone knit" as it was even used to help knit broken bones back together. Comfrey cream is readily available at most health shops, or you can make your own. Just rubbing it in 3 times a day will help relieve the pain too. Perhaps do it in the middle of the times between when you are allowed to take your pain tablets. You can find some tips about comfrey cream and a recipe here http://www.1pic4twenty.co.za/comfrey.htm
