Are the newer plasma screen televisions less prone to "burn-in"?

    No. The problem is inherent to the technology itself. Individual cells in plasma displays will burn out over time and, when enough fail within a given area of the screen, the damged area becomes visible. The cells that are cycled the greatest number of times are the first to fail.

    In fact, the problem may be more severe on the inexpensive models now on the market. Some of the new plasma televisions entering the market are inferior, in terms of image quality, to older and more expensive models. The large price reductions on some plasma televisions were not achieved by cheaper production methods - you can only cut the cost so far before the quality of the product suffers.

    If you are concerned about the lifespan of a plasma television, you should probably look to a different display technology.
