Yeah. And birthdays are another year closer to death. I mean, it's true. You can't really blame the old guy. He is speaking the truth.

It's not upsetting Cynicism is quite comical

Sounds like life is very hard for him right now or else things have gone on so long that he's looking forward to an end. It's sad. Poor man is depressed but doesn't sound like he's looking for help or even knows it's out there for him.

That is sad...sounds like he's depressed and possibly lonely too. I guess tho with the cost of living rising all the time it has this effect on some of our golden oldies :(

Sounds a bit like my mum -- some folks have just given up on life and are simply killing time until oblivion takes them...

Each day we are all one day closer to death. That is the one thing we can be certain of. Many of the elderly are simply tired. Also, many of them have accepted the reality of their impending death and know it's not far away. Most have come to terms with it and are actually comfortable with it. Unfortunately some people view the elderly as having outlived their "usefulness" and treat them as such and allow them no dignity and do not treat them with the respect they deserve. They are treated with impatience, contempt, taken advantage of, used and abused..it is so sad. They have worked hard all their lives, given their share to the government who, in return, gives them only a pittance to live on..allows the drug companies to charge them prices they can't afford for the medicine to keep them alive. Money is taken back from them to pay for "insurance" that half the time won't pay for what is needed. They suffocate in the summer and freeze in the winter because they can't afford to pay the utility bills AND get their medicine. Who can really blame them for wanting an end to it all? *THUMP* Sorry..I fell off my soapbox..I guess it's time to hush, now.

I hope it was his attempt at humour:)
