Another factor is the level of administrative responsibility a person may have in a particular organization. Another variance factor is the part of the country (USA) where the person works. In my own case, I spent my entire career as one and the most I ever made was 40 thousand dollars a year. I know of funeral home managers that are paid 12 dollars an hour, with no benefits. I also know of firms where beginners fresh out of school earn 30,000 or so, with all sorts of benefits.
