  • I'll totally teach you. I'm not sure if I'd be a very good teacher....but I'll try! :)
  • Yeah I'm shocked! How would you now wear speedos? But I can't teach you, I know how to float and stuff but I'm not really good at it.
  • Uum...sure?
  • To be honest a dog might be the best teacher you could have. He just won't be able to throw you a buoy if you get into serious trouble.
  • Doggy Paddle
  • I used to teach the lower grades and people that didn't know how to swim when I was both in middle school and even high school. I think because I had trouble putting me face in the water to swim at an early age and didn't learn to swim until I was 6-7, I just had a knack of getting people to get brave, find their float position and gain confidence. I think my enthusiasm was contagious. If you can find someone who loves it I'm sure you can learn if you are willing:-)
  • Drastic...Didn't i tell you to use the little doggie paddles over their? Thats how you get started :) Hell dont ask me i don't know how to swim
  • OK now listen very carefully. Hold your nose take a deep breath and jump. you'll pop up. If not I send the life guard in after you, I promise.
  • Not me. I don't know how to swim, either.
  • Get someone to teach you one on one. They do have swim classes for adults at many rec centers. You can do it!
  • You have a place to swim in Ohio? You don't want me to teach you, I'll just lift you up and throw you in the water, the classic teaching style.
  • dont breathe underwater and dont drown and youll b fine
  • Ok Drastic, this is getting a little weird (I'm sure at least one of you knows what I'm talking about):D. I can't swim either. I've always had phobia of drowning. LOL. Shh...don't tell anybody. LOL. :D
  • Run as fast as you can and take a flying leap into the deep end. You'll learn to swim really fast.
  • Nope. You wouldn't want me teaching you anyway. I'm afraid of water, I can't swim very well, and I will never be forced into a bathing suit. And if you start to drown, I'm not jumping in after you. Best find another teacher.
  • I'm an avid competitive sport swimmer so I can give you some pointers but can't give you step by step instructions.Start slow, practice proper breathing in shallow water.breathe off to your side, you'll probably favor a particular side too.pracctice circular arm strokes and uniform kicking in shallow water and holding a wall.stay under constant supervision until you are ablebodied in the water. practice kicking with a kick board from the end to end of the pool.you should also wear some floation device until you can keep your self steadily above water without support.Don't push yourself too hard. It'll take more than a day to completely learn.Best of luck to you!
  • I really don't like to swim, even though I'm pretty good at it, but if it's that important to you...I suppose I'll help! ;)
  • Its more shocking Seeing random places hair grows on peoples bodys than someone learning to swim. Geta coach, or take a friend to the pool so you can laugh and learn at the same time :)
  • Raises hand Ex-lifeguard of three years here at your service. Which stroke would you like first?
  • No, i need someone to teach me because i don't know how to swim either:(
  • ok, i'll teach you how to swim:)
  • I am not a coach nor an expert but I can swim. Here what I do to learn swimming. Firstly find a swimming pool spot where its depth will not drown me when standing. Then I learn floating by lying facing the water, keeping body, arm and legs straight and relax. At the same time, I learn breathing by turning my head sideway gently to breathe.Trying not to breathe or exhale when nose and mouth in water and breathe when out of water. Finally I learn and try the legs strokes and then the hand strokes of breaststroke & freesytle. It is take time to coordinate the breathing and stroke. Time and patient is the key to get the feel of the water. It is easier to get a coach. However, learn from book and video is also possible. But remember safety first.
  • i was scarred for most of my life i'm still scared. But i decided to take lessons and it was the best thing i ever did. Take a private you can book in anywhere, you will be surprised how easy it is once you start. Don't worry about what others think of you, you are doing this for you no one else. I'm still wanting to get better and will go back to the pool when summer comes, but if you're imbarrassed do it your own way go with people you trust and make sure you wear comfortable swimware. If you really want to learn you have to book the session no one else... and don't expcet anyone to teach you cos it will be put off. if you book in, pay for a professional, well it might cost more but the confidence you'll gain will be worth it!!!!!
  • dont feel bad, i never learned how to swim till i was, like, 15, (im being bombarded by a fluffy kitty at the moment!) :P mmm i love the sound of purrring.... <3
  • you gotta move your legs and arms...lol, its pretty much like your trying to fly underwater... practice in a shallow end where your feet can touch the ground...
  • I'm not shocked at all. I never learned to swim well, but taught myself enough that I can hold my own. Just lay on top of the water, use your arms to paddle, first one, then the other, while kicking your feet. Actually, it should come pretty natural. Good Luck!
  • I learnt to swim by getting tossed in the deep end (seriously), and I become an excellent swimmer through tutorials, and coaching during lifeguard training.
  • Im a swim coach and it all kind of depends on what you want to learn. If you need to basics like floating and stuff i would take lessons if you not afraid it shouldn't take that long i would 4 weeks or so. But if you just want to learn the strokes and already are comfortable in the water and DONT want to take lessons go to about.com they have a REALLY GOOD break down of the strokes and expertvillage.com should have some good videos as well. But regardless i would suggest taking lessons its better when you can have some one watching you and fixing it as you is the best way.
  • I cant swim for shit either. I need to learn too, but I am deathly afraid of the water!!:)
  • I am a Lifeguard and swim instructor at the YMCA and i have been doing that for 2 years now. I am also on the swim team for 14 years. I have several aunts and uncles that are in the hall of fame for their colleges and one of them is my coach now. So, I can do my best of explaining it to you but chances of you learning it over the internet is not very likely. You definatly need personal help lol
