  • I relocated to Clayton NC from So Cal in 2004. I'd love to send you a relocation packet if you contact me at Tracy@TracyRiba.com. Clayton is the fastest growing town inside Johnston County, just 20 minutes from Raleigh. We have low tax rates, don't reassign school districs on an annual basis, big employers and growing real estate. Check out www.ComeToClaytonNC.com.
  • It depends on your definition of great city... I've lived in the Triangle for the past 15 years or so. I'd suggest Chapel Hill if you can afford it. Just watch out for actual hippies. Carrboro is fairly calm and just down the (Franklin) street from UNC (where Michael Jordan attended college). Chapel Hill is part of the Triangle. Research Triangle Park isn't too far of a drive away, so the home prices have retained their value and even appreciated. Chapel Hill has a free public transit (bus) system, which can be pretty convenient if your car's in the shop. If you're a conservative, watch out... people there can be extremely liberal. (I'm a Libertarian and thought it was a bit much...) It really depends on who you talk to. Just be aware that outside of the safety of the Triangle region, Asheville (in the mountains) and the beaches lies the Bible Belt. If you aren't so persuaded, it can get old fast.
  • Um, I would stick with the bigger cities. I grew up in Durham, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone just moving here. Greensboro is nice, but sometimes boring. Charlotte is nice too, but can get expensive. You're best bet would probably be Winston-Salem. It is a beautiful city, there is lots to do and it has some very nice and quiet neighborhoods.
  • If you're a beach person Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach are really good. If you're an 'uptowner' Charlotte might be a choice to consider. For a good mix of metropolitan conveniences the Triad is excellent. (Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point.) If you like the mountains we have Asheville, Boone, Wilkesboro. We've got a good variety.
  • What career choices are you looking at? That would be my first consideration since different areas have different jobs available.
  • That would depend on you. Do you have a degree in something? Work experience in a specific area? Are you licensed in something? Right now I see a need for electricians, engineers, medical field personal, etc...what are you qualified for?
  • I moved from Baltimore MD to Charlotte NC abotu a year and a half ago -- I've lived in a couple other cities than baltimore and I personally think Charlotte is great. There is the uptown area for your city life but you can also travel an hour out of the city and have see more of the country. Its also close enough to other cities in NC, the mountains, myrtle beach SC and even Atlanta for weekend trips. There is an good mix of people, and coming from the north people seem especially friendly. It doesn't seem to have its own culture yet but quite a mix of others. Many people that live here now have moved from other places.
  • Charlotte, is a good, big city. But with all big cities, they have their crime. But some areas are good though. Or you could try living outside of Charlotte in a smaller city, Belmont or Mount Holly, very nice peaceful places to love
